aging and life expectancy with downs syndrome

February 7th, 2009

There is nothing wrong with wanting to look young as you get older, in fact it is perfectly natural,as is the use of anti-ageing skin care products to help achieve this effect. As the skin is so important a great deal of effort goes into the preparation of products including those that increase the production of collagen which is the primary protein in skin. This area of anti-ageing treatment is connected to another area involved in looking young; that of anti-oxidants.

One of the best known anti-oxidants is vitamin C and despite continual research, no-one body involved can decide just exactly how much our body should consume on a daily basis. Skin care treatments that are based on vitamin C, pose the problem of becoming oxidized themselves as they come into contact with air during their usage.

To get around this some skin care treatments are based on derivatives of vitamin C, which are more stable and less expensive. Unfortunately the anti-oxidant products used to replace vitamin C are not as effective but as vitamin E and lipoic acid can both have the same effect; this is not too much of a problem.

It is found in the blood it is an anti-oxidant that is also used to increase the body’s defences against other diseases. Another, lipoic acid is in every cell of our body and is used to generate energy for us to live but also helps reduce and reverse the skin’s ageing process.

Phytochemicals aren’t produced by the body but are extracted from a number of plants and used in many anti-ageing skin care products to combat the signs of ageing. A secondary but more important use of phytochemicals is the effect they have on the prevention of breast, prostate and colon cancers.

For some time now it has also been known that the vitamins B5, B6 and B12 also have anti-ageing skin care properties. The use of anti-ageing skin care products is a huge scientific field to research and has far greater potential than just producing goods that reduce the visible signs of age.

In time new discoveries will be made advancing our understanding of the ageing process and products that can reduce or reverse the effects more successfully. The amount of research going on in this field will undoubtedly bring results in time, hopefully bringing down the cost of these anti-ageing skin care products in addition to increasing their reliability.

However, man-made skin care regimes should be used only as a supplement. Simple things that can make a difference in slowing the signs of ageing.
