aging with grace eldercare
Reducing the visible signs of ageing is the goal of many beauty companies and this is why the use of anti-ageing skin care products continues to rise each year. As the skin is so important a great deal of effort goes into the preparation of products including those that increase the production of collagen which is the primary protein in skin. Collagen is related to other anti-ageing substances in the body called anti-oxidants.
Although the benefits of vitamin C (an anti-oxidant) are well documented, it is still debated as to what our daily amount should be. The problem with vitamin C derived skin care treatments, is they can become oxidized when exposed to the atmosphere, often even before they are used.
Manufacturers are trying alternative skin care treatments to vitamin C that do not have this oxidization problem or cost as much to produce. However, these anti-ageing skin care treatments are not as effective vitamin C based products, although vitamin E and lipoic acid are also anti-oxidants and have similar effects.
The body uses vitamin E as an anti-oxidant and is also used to increase the natural defense we have against disease, including many types of cancer, it is a fat soluble vitamin in people’s blood. Lipoic acid is also an energy making component of the body, found in every cell, it can also help reduce the ageing process which affects the skin.
The use of plants has not been overlooked either with many types able to provide essences called phytochemicals which have proved successful in anti-ageing skin care products. Like lipoic acid, phytochemicals help reduce the occurrence of cancers such as prostate, breast and colon cancers.
Some B-vitamins like B5, B6 and B12 are also in use for anti-ageing skin care products. Although the area of anti-ageing skin care products is huge, more is being learnt about the whole ageing process and about natural products that can reduce the effects it has on our bodies as well as our skin.
In time new discoveries will be made advancing our understanding of the ageing process and products that can reduce or reverse the effects more successfully. In time it is hoped that less expensive and more reliable anti-ageing skin care products will become available for a larger number of people to use.
Fortunately there are a number of natural anti-ageing regimes that can be carried out that do not rely on science. What proportion of the population actually eat healthily, take plenty of exercise, drink sufficient water and obtain restful and regular sleep?
